X-Preg service temp is only 115C ^


The product in the video is basically an epoxy tooling gelcoat, it's intended for high temperature tooling - ie. moulds for pre-preg.

There is no point putting a high temperature surface coat on a laminate that cant handle those same temperatures. If your pre-preg parts cant handle more than 120C then having a surface coat that can handle 200C isn't going to do anything for it.

Agreed, seems to be a pretty pointless product for epoxy impregnated carbon cloth, probably mainly used for vinylester resins and fibreglass :-)

I have prepreg carbon using epoxy resin capable of coping with 220 deg C. The lowest I am aware of is 125 deg C

Quite a few pre-preg systems have a working temperature after postcure in the 120 -130 C ball park so I can't see the advantage of using this coating.

Hi! So I'm designing a part that has to go over an exhaust of a car (not too near but not too far either) so it's got constant hot air blowing over it. I've been using pre-preg carbon fiber for the part and I was wondering if I could coat it with this:

which I came across while browsing the internet. Was wondering what you guys would think of this if I used it as my surface gel coat for my pre-preg parts.
