Hi
I'm in FSAE Team and i'd like to make carbon fiber monocoque body
last year our Team use aramid fiber honey comb
This year we try to change core material (1/8 inch aramid fiber Honey comb ⇒ 1/8 inch aluminum Honey comb)
last year we use adhesive film to combine carbon and aramid honey comb
because we expect that film type adhesive will show even adhesion and it was corresponded our expectaion
by using aluminum honeycomb is it okay use same ahesive film in sandwich pannel??
if not which adhesive is good for aluminum honeycomb

We're just putting this together now. We'll add a link to this post in a few days when it's done.

Yes, it would be fine to use the same adhesive film that you used for the aramid honeycomb with aluminium honeycomb. Make sure of course that the adhesive film has been stored frozen for the whole...

thanks for your reply but i have a question about aluminum honeycomb sandwich pannel if aluminum isoxidized, is there no problem??

Do you mean that the honeycomb you have shows signs of oxidisation (showing as white corrosion on the foil)? - If this is the case then this will certainly cause some reduction in mechanical...

yes i was worried about galvanic corrosion 2years ago, i've been made aluminum honeycomb sample now it showscorrosion at the surface of course only visible point

Why did you switch from aramid fiber to aluminium honeycomb?
Jan Christian

because it's too heavy by changing core material , we want to reduce the weight of prepreg

For very light sandwich you can use PVC or acrylic foam core instead but without film glues and this could be lighter than any nomex or alloy honeycomb due to not using film glues.

we've been use rohacell core but at hard point it peel off from skin so we only use at bulk head

when we cut off the monocoque body the rohacell is crushed and smashed so body compliance was serious problem

That sounds very unusual. I can't understand why the Rohacell would be crushed and smashed. Is this after an impact or just after fabrication? Also, if you're getting delamination between the prepreg...

after second test drive compliance get really serious after that we use rohacell only use static parts

Fasta is right that in a number of situations, especially for this cores (where the weight of the bond-line is a more significant percentage of the overall core weight) that using a foam without an.....

Amore: What was the carbon fiber fabric weight and how many layers on each side of the1/8 inch aramid fiber Honey comb did you use?
Jan Christian

which part do you mean?? our body has different layer on each part (we use t700) at sideimpact we use 10 each
