How many of you guys have one? Please describe how good they are. Can they pick up a leak over the many square feet of the bag?

Is there better and worse types of vacuum bag material?

Well I guess I can now answer my own question. Now that I know what was causing my bags to leak I don't really need a expensive leak detector.

I have an old doctors stethascope which works well. and as dumb as it sounds I quickly built a detector I use most of the time. Its KISS simple. I took 20 inches of the cardboard tube the carbon comes on and made a 45 degree cut and duct taped another 45 degree piece to it. The second piece is only4 inches long. Just put the short piece to your ear and put the other end to wherever you think you have a leak. I can`t believe how well it works.

Hi. I use 2 foot of garden hose, also works very well.

i bought a leak detector and to be honest it was'nt that dear, it is very good, came with a short pipe that attaches to the end for doing localised checks and a parabolic dish. it does find the smallest leaks.

i first used some ear defenders with a small hole drilled in 1 ear cup then pushed a tube inside, it worked ok but the leak detector can hear well out of our hearing range

Fgayford I would be interested to see a photo of your leak detector! If I understood correct is it a tube with 45degree sliced edges???

Thanks, I was looking in something cheaper such as the Sealey Ultrasonic Leak Detector which costs around 80GBP.
