Carbon tube to Titanium sleeve - adhesive and gap recomendations

Hi,

I'm repairing a titanium bicycle and would like to use Easy Composites tubing.

Unfortunately the OD of the carbon tubing you supply does not exactly match the ID of the frame. 

The ID of the titanium tubes I have are:
1. 42.7mm
2. 33.1mm
3. 30mm

The closest tubing you show is
1. 42.7mm closest tube has a 40.9 OD. This would leave a 0.9mm joint gap all the way around.
2. 33.1mm closest tube has a 31.3 OD. This would leave a 0.9mm joint gap all the way around.
3. 30mm closest tube has a 29.3 OD. This would leave a 0.35mm joint gap all the way around.



So I have a few question about resolving the difference.

1. What is the recommended gap/joint space when sleeving carbon tubes with metal?

2. Can Easy Composites supply custom tubing at the these OD 30/33.1/42.7mm suitable for bonding the to the OD?

3. Please can you recommend the best adhesive?

Iirc, the tech sheet for the perma bond adhesive sold by EC have a maximum gap of 2mm and you certainly don't want an interference fit so .9mm is probably almost perfect

Thank you so much, that's good news for me!

I'm thinking of using ET515 as the joints will experience shock and vibration. Is this good for titanium on carbon?

I'm struggling to find information on the best means of application, should I apply to the sleeve or the tube? I was thinking the sleeve, but I'm afraid that inserting the tube would push the epoxy away from the joint area. Any advice?

Personally I'd put it on both to ensure a good contact between the material and adhesive.

515 has quite a low viscosity so once pushed together, it will most likely run down into the joint, just push it in slowly. If there's any gaps, you can use the nozzle of the gun to force adhesive into the joint
