Since this is all new to me I thought I'd start off small & see how it went, so far not so good
The part I chose to remake is pretty rare on my car model in the UK & sourced this from the Netherlands, since I'm on the uk owners club I have had a few people on there asking if I would also make them a copy of this part,
So... 1st up I made & glued the flanges to it, figuring out where to put flanges to make the mould the easiest shape for releasing is a bit confusing at times, managed it 2nd time round,
Then I used the yellow filleting wax & did my best to create a good draft angle all the way around, next step was the mould release wax, gave it a good coat, waited 5 mins & then buffed it off with a new clean cloth,
After this I mixed up some gel coat & applied a layer, this is where the problems started, it seems to have reacted & separated in places, any help/tips on what to do next would be great, or do I have to start the whole thing again?

If you let the gel coat go off a bit around 3 hrs
Just so its tacky and doesn't stick to your finger
Then apply a second coat of gelcoat this will then fill in where its fish eyed away
It should be fine to carry out the rest of the mold procedure

Daz: I've been wondering about a cure for this issue myself, thanks for the tip!
GTE-John: good luck with that part, can't wait to see the final product! how does the part attach to the car? are there tabs you'll have to make as well?

Hi John
Im looking at the pictures and am a little concerned that you potentially have a mechanical lock. Of cause it may just be the angles that the pictures were taken, however be 150% sure you don't have any now before you continue otherwise you will probably destroy both the mould and the part trying to get them apart.
The areas I am concerned about are the top 2 corner edges as viewed on the car.
Looking forward to seeing how it comes out, you should be able to make a very impressive visual impact on the car with that panel
