I'm about half way through making the plug for the left hand door panel. I'm half temped to just lay CF over it, pull it off, and reinforce from the underside. But I'm guessing that wouldn't make for a very good part.

love the project... i've done something similar in my car, ie I took the stereo out, changed its location and then fitted a double din unit instead.... its a pioneer and it effectivelly turns into a touch screen interface with my iphone. My apps, itunes and even calls can be made from the stereo. meaning I have satnav, pictures, contacts etc etc
here is a pic of what it is like:

Hmm I wonder what he charges. I want to do the door panels myself but that tub is probably more than I care to take on.

Yeah I think I will do. I'm to confident in my spraying ability but I've just asked a local shop if they could spray it for me. Hope to hear back from them tomorrow. Should I resand it to prep it?

Yes keep the pictures and discriptions coming.
If you really want a glass like shine you really should clear coat with two part automotive clear. Wet sand and polish.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I think the door panels are going for £5 or 6k a piece or something stupid. Plus with how I'm doing the front components this will give a better integration doing a one-off part.
Hehe and yeah dynamat. Silly ipad autocorrect!
Since you're familiar with the car, any thoughts on the front boot tub? It's just a huge piece. Mine's essentially just a compressed mesh composite it looks like, it's not waterproof (which is stupid since its open to the elements and the front windscreen drainage goes right on it) and isn't particularly nice looking.
I'd like to recreate it in carbon fiber. It would keep it light, but have enough structural support for mounting the amplifier in it, but again, it's such a huge piece. I'm not sure how well vacuum infusion would work. I assume technocraft uses prepreg/autoclave. And they charge $4000 for there's, and I'm not sure ship to UK.
