One of my customers asked if I could make one of my Rear Wings with a V Joint. For some unknown reason I agreed to give it a go.
The Wing is fairly tricky to make anyway, being made from two (upper and lower) pieces moulded and then bonded together with strengthening ribs in between. It is difficult to "match" the weave on the join line even without the "V".
Anyway after some head scratching here is the result. It certainly isn't perfect but I have learnt quite a lot in the process.
(sorry for the poor quality pictures)

Hi Warren
Nice work. It does look nicer with the V joint.
So how did you get it to lay down so neat? Is it infused or did you did use prepreg.
Thanks
Fred

Hi Fred.
The stack for each half (upper and lower) is 200 grm 2/2 Twill Pro Finish - 190 grm Plain Weave - 2mm Soric - 190grm Plain Weave.
I sprayed GC 50 Clear Gelcoat down first but instead of letting it cure as I normally would I waited until it was "tacky". I then laid down the Pro Finish. The Gelcoat acts like spray tack. You can lift the cloth and re lay it a good few times without the gelcoat loosing it's tackiness. Once I was happy with the positioning I continued to lay up as I would for a normal Infusion.
Hope that helps. Warren

Looks better than my first attempt. Mines just wet lay though. Its interesting to see peoples appraoch to this, I now stiffen the edge of the fabric by sticking a line of masking tape down the edge the acetoning off the tape. It leaves some glue behind which stiffens up the weave allowing for easy positioning but also dissapears nicely. This was my first go:

That's the great thing about this forum you can pick up great nuggets of information. As you say it's interesting to see how other people overcome the issues that Composites keep throwing our way.
Like the idea for removing the tape
may have to give that a go.

That's quite a result! especially for a first attempt...
Do you join the halves after curing?
