Thanks for your help. I think the sub 6°c workshop was the issue.

Thanks very much, my thoughts exactly, just wanted a second opinion. Sat it infront of the aga and is all good now. Does adding more catalyst help in cold temperatures or does it not work like that?

Andy

No problem. Is that you sat in front of the aga or the mould Ha Ha.
Doesn't really work like that I'm afraid, you can "tweak" things a little say go from 2 to 2.5% Catalyst (depending on the resin) but you still need the temperature.

Hi, sounds like the cold workshop is the issue. You really need a minimum ambient temperature of around 17 Degrees C. The gelcoat in the pot will be curing because it is a small volume and will generate its own heat once the catalyst kicks in. The gelcoat on the mould is a thin layer over a big area, so the same effect won't apply. You need to get the mould somewhere warm. You can kick start the process with a heat gun but this is not ideal as it is easy to get some areas hotter than others effecting the integrity of the gelcoat. I have also found that too much pigment can slow things down.
Hope that helps.

Hello,

I am having issues getting my gel coat to cure. I am using easy composites clear gel coat with a black pigment and catalyst. The left over gel coat in the mixing beaker is curing after around an hour, however the gel on the mould is not curing. The first time I left it for 24 hours before deciding to start again. The second time I added more catalyst and has been around 5 hours and is still wet. It is in a cold workshop. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
