The company I talked to had similar products, but they all react at temperatures higher then we need, I guess.

300degrees is indeed a very high temperature.
Nice to see we are a lot on here trying to find an answer! Cool

maybe look for another material?
I was thinking of rubber, Sometimes when it gets really hot it expands, you have some rubber that they use for roads for example.
I remember that when I was little the rubber inbetween concrete plates expanded, you then get a sticky black gumball product.
the problem would be that it is not stiff enough while heated and wouldn't apply enough presure I think...

just came up with a new theory,
what if you would work with some type of blatter filled with some air and water (like a balloon with some water in it), heat will make the water evaporate, causing presure inside the blatter and onto the part?!

Hi Matt

I came across an article in (I think it was called) Composite World. There was an article with pictures of them makong a airfoil for a race car. They used silicone and a aluminium mould and heated press. It was very interesting and I would like to try it my self.

yes maybe, but will the pressure be high enough?
The silicone gives a mechanical pressure, not like a "gas" pressure, but on the other hand thats what you get in an autoclave.

Crazy idea, use only water like in hydro forming.
Moulds have to be strong in any case.
Do you have a good system for making bladders?

Update
I have called a company who told me to call another company who told me to call another company who told me to call the first company again.
I have not called them again yet, but will soon.

On of them was Wacker, http://www.wacker.com , they are quite specialized in silicones but they could not deliver this, at least the Swedish office
didnt know about a heat expanding silicone, but, they told me that it could in fact be an ordinary RTV2 silicone, that expands in heat just like any other material.

Thanks for the updates! Fred, they don't really talk about the silicone expanding but more as a core material that is removed afterwards?!
Prsw, thanks for the updates, maybe it would work with RTV silicone, but hard to find some data of it on the internet :s
