A customer has asked me to look into making some fenders (mudguards) for a Trials bike and I was thinking of giving your flexible resin a try.
Couple of questions though?

1- Can the Resin be used for Infusion.
2- Is your GC50 compatible with the resin and will it still allow the part to flex without cracking/de-laminating.

Thanks in advance Warren

I've used it and I would say no and no.  You can lacquer it if you add a plasticiser additive to the lacquer.  Have a look at this...

I'd say it'd be perfect for what your after making.  Give it plenty of time to cure as I found it took a while to reach full cure.  I used 1x200g and 2x600g and it was rigid enough but with the toughness needed..

Hi Warren,

I agree with FLD; I think it would be too thick to infuse (although it may be possible, through a very easy flowing laminate) but I would certainly not recommend teaming it up with the GC50. Although they may bond, you would would be throwing away the flexibility of the EF80 and ending up with a laminate that would bend (from the EF80) when the GC50 gelcoat, although very resilient in normal use, would certainly crack away given enough punishment.

A lot of people have found that the EF80 wets out fibre so well that you can get great looking results just by wet-lay laminating it so you won't need to infuse and the surface finish is good enough to not need a gel. I too think that on its own, with the right choice of reinforcement, it might be a good system for some really durable parts.

All the best, Matt

Thanks FLD/Matt. I really appreciate the super quick responses. I will get some Resin ordered and give it a try. I have a feeling this could be the way forward for quite a few of my projects.

Thank's again Warren

Thank's FLD for the very kind offer but I have already put an order in with EC. I am based in Todmorden so not a million miles away from you. If there is ever anything I can do for you in return just ask.

Regards Warren
