Hey lads been struggling for ages doing my 2pac clear coating for ages, everything i do is infused, from out of the mould it looks perfect to the eye but then soon as i spary clear after prep work it leaves these tiny tiny holes, looks like where the weaves cross over it might have mirco hole or bubbles there, what has everyone done to spary straight over then, because atm im sparying the piece at lest 5 to 6 times with sanding every coat, should be able to do it in 2 coats but just wont run into to holes, tried thinning it right out and still wont work.

Your root cause is that the laminate is slightly lean. Try leaving the resin feed open for another minute or two after closing the vacuum outlet to eliminate surface porosity like this.

Then sanding the surface before painting can also open up porosity if you haven't got enough resin to sand into before hitting the fibres. For this reason, I believe it is better to not sand the surface before clearing. Instead, clean the surface very well with isopropyl alcohol or a paint prep solvent, and then use a grey or gold 3M scuff pad to key the surface without actually removing any resin.

For issues like you are having currently, it is actually possible to fill the pinholes in one application if you are using a premium quality high solids clear. It requires really loading it up, so you need to let each coat dry to the touch before you spray the next coat to avoid runs and solvent pop. It can often take as many as 6 or 7 coats, so it can take a few hours. And the clear may sink back into the pinholes when it cures, which usually isn't that noticeable but if it bugs you then just flat back and polish or spray a final coat.

Awesome thank you hanaldo, i see exactly what you mean by it being lean and ill give that a go on my next infusion, for my paint i used PPG so its good stuff, i am still learning all this, so ill try your paint procedure and see how i go, i was trying to fill the holes after 2 coats, clearly ive been worrying to much 😂, and i have been lightly sanding, ill go to the shops and buy scuff pad 👍
