Would the rules for making a carbon fiber driveshaft follow the normal tube making process detailed in the videos or would there be additional engineering concerns that would change the process?

...I'm just curious. I don't have a large enough oven right now to pull one off anyway (need a 51" ds) ...but it would be neat to make one if it was as simple as making a 4" cf tube.

[Edit: oh, I guess it would be important to point out that yes, it makes perfect sense you would have to align the cloth to provide torsional rigidity and that wasn't a concern in the basic tube making tutorial. I was purposely trying to just throw the open question out to see what kinds of thought processes people might use. But I thought that might be something worth coming back to start the list of differences with.]

I looked into this some time ago as I am using a lot of carbon on my race car, but decided to leave something as structurally critical as a propshaft to the professionals. Not only does the tube have to cope with extreme twisting but has also to be attached to metal yokes at each end. Not something I am prepared to risk, even with my short (600mm - 2') prop  :-)

You will find the layup is often completely different to a "standard" roll wrapped tube which has fibres down its length and around for hoop strength.

A driveshaft is mostly designed to resist twist loads so often you see them spiral wound (or using other similar methods) to give the right kind of fibre direction to resist twist.

i have made a couple of driveshafts using filament winding in the past, it takes quite a lot of design and manufacture know how to make something suitable.
Plus there is the fun task of bonding or mechanically fastening the metallic drive flanges to it.
