I am a bit disappointed that it does not have the typical woven look. Did they try to safe money? Is the strength at least still the same? Thanks a mil in advance Hendrik

Theoretically it will be a bit stronger than the woven, though in the real world I'm not sure it will make any difference for the application - especially given they've done a fairly poor job of laying it up and the fibres have been distorted. It is certainly a strange choice of layup, it looks very haphazard and lazy to me.

It's a real ashame as he is advertising his shoes with the typical woven pattern(see below). I just read that biaxial is normally used as backing. Is that correct? Thanks again

H Group: Forum Members Posts: 5, Visits: 25	Unfortunately the layup und pattern is not the only thing that went wrong. I even cant mount my skateframe under it. Question for below picture: Can i sand the surface down safely in order to have a level mounting surface? Or is it a NoNo to expose and break the weave? Thanks again. Disstressing moment for me. This guy sits in France and i am here in Ireland...will be hard to deal with him. I really thought he knows his stuff looking at the website https://mg-custom.com/glace/

Group: Forum Members Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 28K	It's a lot of fibre to take off, it would certainly affect the strength. Whether the thing has been engineered to calculated load tolerances is another matter, it's possible you could flatten that out and it would still be plenty strong. But it is also possible that it would make it too weak, so it's a risk. I would at least try to talk to the guy, he may be reasonable.

H Group: Forum Members Posts: 5, Visits: 25	Yes i see what he says....but preparing for the worst. What are you guys recommend to fill cavities? Is super glue and baking soda still the way to go? Another problem(and far worst) is that between the outer shell and the 12mm carbon fibre insert block is a cavity that needs to be filled in order to get my helicoil and ultimately my screw to hold. Here also a picture of a cross section of my 17year old custom boot i had before... Thanks for your help great resource. THANK YOU

I use to make speed skate bases for my uncle who was a shoe maker an somehow got in with a speed skater who wanted custom boots. Use to make the base with the blade pickups and not wet the kevlar on the sides,my uncle then stitched the boot upper to the kevlar. Your problems, 1 I wouldn't sand the laminate flat I would liquid shim it to make the low parts the same height as the highest part 2 from the inside of the shell you should be able to add a new hard point in either carbon or ali You might find it easier to drill and tap your new insert before fitting an use that thread to locate the insert and clamp it down

Not sure what ali is. The shoe is already made with inserts in place..."only" problem is that i find some cavities that i wish to fill and read that super glue and baking soda is used. Once i have the level issue and cavity fill done i want to helicoil my fixings(like the old shoe)
