I think it is your uni materials too.

You can add a layer of a woven cloth in between the uni layers to help the resin pass through better. 

Does anyone have a suggestion for the material/weight of the material to use in between layers?

Anything woven or stiched  as long as it creates a new feed path through in-between the uni layers.

Agreed on the peel ply and agreed on the pump. What altitude are you at? My Robinair 15500 will pull a full atmosphere but in at sea level. I can’t see your flow media but you can end it around 1 inch short of your layup or exactly at the edge. Anything beyond that is speeding up the resin for no reason.I’d also add 4 inches more to the distance from the layup to your vacuum line. Can almost avoid a resin trap that way.

Flow media to the edge of the laminate. 
I will try again at the weekend with a better pump and larger peel ply resin break.
I did think about placing the inlet resin spiral in between the 5 layers (just at the start)

Dorset, the resin on the surface moves evenly across the flow media then slows down substantially at the brake. When youre laying up a flat panel that is thicker than normal, take care to not bridge the peel ply or flow media on the edges. It’s like making a resin channel on the side of your part.

Here is a photo of my setup. I think the infusion mesh goes too far and not enough of a resin break. The peel ply is maybe too wide? Also, I think my pump is not strong enough. It is only pulling 0.6 bar vacuum. I have a New 2 stage pump coming in a few days. A lot of issues.

Dorset, I really dont see an issue with your layup. The pic I posted was of 3 layers of 300g plain weave glass and 11 layers of 170g 2x2 Carbon Kevlar. SLOW is an understatement on how fast the resin moved across the layup.The first time attempting this thickness I had a single round spot on the surface layer as I stopped the infusion after the media was wetted out (normally works for thin layups). The second attempt I used a larger brake and waited for the resin to almost hit the vacuum line. It solved the issue. If you haven’t tried this or any of the other advice I’d recommend experimenting with cheaper glass to dial in what works best for your exact layup.

Does your resin typically move to the resin break very quickly on the to side and then the underside catches up?

What's the viscosity of your resin? 

It is Easy composites Infusion resin with fast hardener (it is only a small, 250mm x 250mm part)
