No went well in the past with polyester.
Already did different parts with a polyester infusion resin.
Never had problems with it, main reason I'm more for the epoxy now is that it
is more transparant, stronger (in theory, never tested it) and I don't have the smell anymore.

I always thought you couldnt vacuum polyester as it boils. There's a chemical reaction releasing gas too.

Well judging by the video, you applied poly gelcoat, placed the fabric on the tacky gel and then infused it with epoxy resin?? Well there must be some sort of chemical reaction occurring as the gelcoat occupies some of the fiber spacing. Or the heat from the poly is causing that surface. What puzzles me is why you do it wet in wet in the first place? Gelcoat and subsequent application of fabric with spray adhesive is the route i would have taken.

I realize you didnt use epoxy gelcoat because of the polyester mould. I would still let the gelcoat harden fully if it is not epoxy to epoxy. It is just a suspicion, but you described everything else. It could also be that the soric has printed through, don't know how many layers you used.

Interested to read some other opinions.

cheers n good luck

Hi so a while ago I've worked on a project using grey poly/carbon twill
and Soric Lantor infusion medium.

I wasn't that happy about the result coming out of the mould and want to know why, So I won't make the same mistake next time.

1. So my first guess is some air went through the part? but the bag was fully sealed and tested with a drop test of 45min and so on.
No air could have passed through the mould because the mould was totally inside the vacuumbag.

2. mould surface was not perfect giving it orange peel look? The mould was pollished and very shinny so not possible too, I guess.
3. I've used a polyester gelcoat and epoxy infusion resin (reason, Polyester mould, Polyester gelcoat (won't stick to the mould, epoxy would stick way more) and epoxy infusion resin bonds
well to polyester so thats why, but maybe there is a reaction between the 2?!

You can watch the small video on how it was made, maybe you can find some errors in the video?!

Please share you'r ideas i'll be happy to hear every possible theory Smile

Kind regards,
