was wondering how trim clips are made? 
are they part of a two piece mold, or are they made using a separate type of mold (e,g vacuum form or silicone mold) and then stuck onto the carbon fiber part?

looks like an over moulded part that press forms the skin then with a suitable material moulds the clips on the back, we have the kit at work but the tooling costs are high as matthieu says due to all the intricacies involved with sliding bolsters and small geometry.

This is where skinning of OEM parts work well as you dont have to worry about how to attach then back onto the car.

isnt there a way to DIY make the clips? i was thinking about using Plasticine to block the holes and make each clip into a "block", then make a vacuum formed plastic mold of it. then pour some kind of resin into the plastic mold, once cured, use a rotary tool to cut the plastic "blocks" into the form of the clips.
does this make sense lol

sounds like a lot of hassle, I would 3d print the clips and bond them on.

I make silicone moulds with CS25 and then cast them with Xencast P6 Toughened Polyurethane Casting Resin. When they are cured i just epoxy them with a bit of carbon fiber wave on to the part
