As long as you sand deep enough to eliminate the bubbles so it all fills with fresh resin then you should be fine.  The fresh resin will fill in all the scratches and make it a glossy finish again.  Ensure the piece is as clean as possible before pouring the next layer of resin as otherwise any dirt will be trapped and stand out.

Hi Everyone,

So to cut a long story short. I foolishly didn't seal my wood before going ahead with pouring my 3mm layer on for a desk I'm making. As the resin thickened more and more bubbles kept cropping up and I attempted to battle them off with my trusty heat gun...but in the end the resin became too thick for the bubbles to escape as the wood just kept releasing them.

Anyway, no need to cry over spilt milk. I'm trying to recover the project now and I'm looking for some help/advice to recover it.



So the current state of play is that I have bubbles all over the place. (see very embarrassing image above).

I was thinking what I'd do is first sand the whole thing down to get open up the bubbles, then add another 1mm layer over the top of the whole thing. I'm unsure as to whether the extra layer would actually hide the scratches I'd make by sanding the whole thing?

And whether I'm actually going about the right way of fixing it.

Any opinions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
