There is a free (although a donation is appreciated) program downloadable from blueheronkayaks.com called kayak foundry. It was created for designing sea kayaks but works for others just as well, one of my friends made a really nice surf boat using this software,

I've never seen anything that'll do this.  From my experience (squirt) you make your plug a bit on the big side and then cut the mouldings accordingly.  You can gaffer tape the hull and deck together and get a reasonable amount of time to assess waterline. 

There's loads of guides online for the squirt boats.  Try looking at the urge from the US.

Hi all

I am contemplating making a kayak which will need a mould, but before i make the mould i want to design the shape of the hull so i can judge the waterline based on the weight of the boat and paddler.

Does anybody know of any software (hopefully free) where i can try different shapes without having to make a mould and hope i got my sums correct?
