Hi !

For a project at the university we need to make a carbon fibre wing. The wing is not bigger dan a metre in lenght. So maybe making it with prepreg carbon.
Is it easiest to make a mold for each side of the wing profile, upper and lower, making these two sides in carbon and after hardening, gluing these together? Then these two moulds could be easily be CNC'd in PU foam.

Or are there other methods used to make wing profiles in carbon ?

Regards from Belgium.

there are many ways to do it, it depends on if you are making a one-off or many of them.
If its a normal NACA profile all the way along you can hot wire out of foam the shape then cover it in carbon and cure it off, this is a simple way of doing it but you will have a bit of snading and lacquering afterwards.

To make a more robust wing an upper and lower surface tool should be used, plus a tool for the central stringer/stiffener which you would bond into the lower part, its best to have return flanges too so that you dont have butt joints on the leading and trailing edges.

Thanks for the answer ! Making return flanges is a good idea for not having butt joints thanks !
