Hi!

I need to coat a piezo element with epoxy in order to protect the soldered connections and the fragile sensor, as shown in picture 1.

I would prefer a clear flexible rather than rigid resin.

I was looking at :

> EPOXY COATING RESIN

> EF80 FLEXIBLE EPOXY RESIN

> CLEAR EPOXY GEL COAT

Which one do you recommend?

Well the coating resin is designed to be polished up and is rigid. The gel coat is even more so.

It sounds like the EF80 is just right for your application unless something much more economical like silicone could be used or a laminating resin cured at very low temperature. Not sure what your application is but if it is in water for long periods of time you might need to find out if you will have any problems with water absorption.

Dave.

Hi Francesca,

My suggestion for this would be our ET515 Semi Flexible Epoxy Adhesive. It has a very high bond strength, is clear, cures quickly, has a medium viscosity and is classed (in adhesive terms) as semi flexible. It is actually quite hard but has a slight amount of flex; I'm not sure if this is enough flex for your requirements but it might be.

The other option would be the EF80 Flexible Epoxy Resin that Dave identified. This is a genuinly flexible epoxy so it would be the right choice if you want an almost rubber-like amount of flex in the cured resin.

The other two would be much too hard.

I hope this helps,

Matt
