HI all,

I've managed to infused a few bonnets with top skin lay-up of 200g + 600g CF, with a patch of 600g reinforcement in the middle close to the latch.
The resulting skins are rather flexible on a large featureless area of the bonnet.

I know adding Soric to the lay-up would help stiffen up the skin.
But because of the light weight, I find I have to put more of my body weight into the bonnet when closing.
This flexes and dents the bonnet in the process (bounces right back when I'm off it)

Can the 200g+2mm Soric+200g lay-up in the tutorial take somebody putting their weight into the bonnet?
I sort of imagine the 200g+2mm Soric+200g lay-up making the skin "crunchy"
Would the Soric lay-up get permanently damaged if it's somehow dented?

Thank you!

Richard

What you are finding is the weight of the bonnet no longer helps compress the latch spring and that area flexes a little so you have to give it a bit of extra force to latch shut.    You can add localised reinforcement to help reduce flex.

Adding soric will certainly improve stiffness and strength of the bonnet, however with enough force, it will still deflect.  As long as you dont deflect it too much, it should still bounce back to shape.

Thank you, Warren.

Guess infused Soric is more flexible than I've imagined.

I will try localized reinforcement vs. soric/coremat to see which fits the bill better.
