Hi Folks,

Ive come across this issue a number of times and haven't found a solution yet.

I have noticed that whenever I wrap a part in Carbon Fiber it all looks perfect ....

BUT...

When I apply the epoxy resin all the corners and folded carbon just seems to lift with the resin.

I usually use masking tape or apply the 3m Super 77 Spray to glue the carbon to the part  but the epoxy resin in wet form lifts the carbon.Crying

anyone come across this or have a solution   ?

Thanks in Advance

Yeh that's quite normal.

The best solution I have found is to use epoxy resin to stick the fabric down to the part rather than masking tape or spray adhesive (both of which are affected by the resin and lose their tack). Apply the resin, let it cure for 2-3 hours or until it is tack-free (can touch it and leave a fingerprint but no material comes off on your finger unless you hold it there for a few seconds). At this stage you apply your carbon, then leave it to cure for another 2-3hours. After this, the initial coat of resin should have cured enough to not soften with the second application of resin and it will hold your carbon firmly in place, so you can go ahead and wet out the carbon without it lifting.

Alternatively, flash tape may provide a better hold and not be affected by the resin, however I find tape a nightmare for holding things in place so I prefer the epoxy base coat method.

Thank-you Hanaldo.   I will try your method with the resin and tach stage.  Smile

I had also previously tried using the resin as a glue to try and hold the fabric down as  I was hoping that it would dry and solve the issue...

BlushNasty Result !!!
