Hi all, I've just made a mould for a bootlid for an s1 exige using the uni-mould kit, I used 2k paint (colour) on the original lid and have noticed after releasing the mould that the 2k paint has gone soft and now shows print through from the coupling coat, is this normal?
I used Easylease on the surface (6 coats) followed by 2coats of wax to guarantee release. The 2k paint is 1month old and appeared to be solid before moulding.

Yep, pretty normal. I've never had a perfect release from any sort of base coat, and even a lot of 2k clear coats will suffer a bit. I've only ever had good results from 10+ year old factory 2k clears, fresh stuff often just goes pear shaped.

These days I've found one clear coat that works and so I just stick with it, either I use that clear coat or I protect the paint with PVA and just accept having to refinish the mould.

Standard car paints are not suitable for most release agents.
I can suggest you special polyurethan paint dedicated for plug coatings: check SEA LINE TOP MODELCOAT .
We use this paint for model painting and since we use it we do not have any problems with model surface after demoulding from the plug.

This kind of reaction can be quite common.  It can sometimes take a lot longer to cure off a 2k Paint to the point it is resistant to solvents such a styrene.  Certainly it is common for rattle can paints (even so called 2k rattle can paints) that the solvents leach out for a long time which can cause sticking as well as surface defects.

Hanaldo, would you mind sharing what clear coat you use, that works?

Thanks in advance.
