regarding the 4 mounting points for the frame mounting, I would have some machined, in a shape that distributes the load out onto the flat sides you are adding to the frame in Carbon.   Consider welding alu- "eyelets" on to flat pieces of aluminium ..

Also, I would certainly make this as a sandwich with either Soric or 3D core --  You can then "overengineer" without adding too much unneeded weight -

I would also consider adding at least one layer of Kevlar /CF mix cloth in the "stack"  Just to make sure of keeping even a broken subframe mostly in one piece

Thank you for your valuable advice. I am thinking something like this for the 4 mounting points, 2 semi-bushings sliding into each other :

I have plenty of soric that I have used it only to add more thickness in some  small areas of some parts I have already made. So I am already detirmined to use it in full scale for the subframe.

I have never use kevlar or mix fabric (except a carbon/titanium wire fabric once). But it is a very good idea and I will follow it.

Any recomentation for the fabric stack? In some places it has to be extra thick in order to meet the mounting points of frame.

@ morepower

Thank you for your advices and conserns. This is my main concern also, to make it as strong as I possible can. Weight is not a matter at all this time, the aluminium subframe weights 1.4 kg which is already very light for my beliefs. The first part could be a lot heavier than the original one, but I don't care at all : ) Also I know that this project could be a little bit out of my abilities and qualifications, but I would  like to give it a try even if I fail. The problem is that the motocross use is really very hard on every part of the bike and all the parts (even the frame) should considered disposable at a given time.

Good work so far..

The subframe would be my only worry. I made a one piece fuel tank and monocoque seat unit for an Aprilia RS250. It is very strong but not sure about shock loads from impacts being sustainable. I would look at making it overkill and adding a core to add some extra stiffness and possibly get a simple alloy subframe made to embed into the part when you make it. It will have a hard life and as you only have limited experience with composites there is a temptation to make it too light you should look at ways of making sure it will be strong enough.

Hi, great to see other MXV lovers around!

The subframe project started because recently both upper beams of subframe were cracked near the joint with the frame, as a result from a very very heavy landing involving neck injury after a tripple jump go bad. The subframe was welded and repaired, but since the subframe is the only spare part concerning the MXV that Aprilia has discontinued, I though as a good idea to try to replicate in carbon.

The idea is to close the two side triangulars of the subframe and the top rectangle and leave open the bottom side (red areas) :

For connecting the frame to subframe, I am thinking of "T" bushings, something like the photo below:

For the rest of the mounts that are less critical (rear fender, side panels and exhausts) I think bonded fasteners will do the job:

Any other ideas especially for the 4 mounting holes for fastening it to the frame are welcomed.

Hello Julien, thank you.

It is very simple, follow the steps of mould creation videos available from easycomposites and the relative material :

White barriers is from polypropylene fluted signboard :

https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/fluted-signboard

Transparent material closing the voids of subframe or for spliting the mould is from polypropylene plastic sheet :

 https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/polypropylene-plastic-sheet

Yellow material is soft filleting wax :

https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/soft-yellow-filleting-filling-wax

Together with release tape and hot glue you are ready for mould preparation for any part you would like.
