Hi all
Complete newbie to all of this, but have (foolishly?) decided to try and build the world's first carbon fibre racing punt.
This is a vessel that will be 9 metres long, 600mm wide, and 250mm deep, built in two identical halves, so that I can put it on a roof rack.
Full details are on my website www.carbonpunt.org.uk but I have a lot of questions to ask.
Firstly: I would like to lay up one half at a time, in pre-preg, with closed cell foam as a filler. Do I need to add extra resin to the pre-preg to 'glue' the closed cell foam into the 'sandwich'?
Second: I would like to make and cure some of the components before final assembly of the complete hull half. Is this possible to add pre cured parts and cure them for a second time, without affecting the strength of the finished items?
Third (and last for the moment): I need to make a hinge/joint for the two halves, and was thinking of using nylon 6 machined components. What is the best way to join this to the carbon hull?
Thanks in advance for your time and comments

Carbon punt update - June 2019
Well, I have finally got some time and space to put together the mould for the hull.
I am constructing the plug in plywood, which will then be coated in perspex.
Some questions for you all:
1. I am going to use the Uni-Mould kit to cast the mould off the plug. Is the 3.3sqm a maximum area this will cope with, or might it be streched to 3.5sqm?
2. What thickness should I make the mould (considering that the plug is 4m x 0.6m x 0.25m)?
3. Can I use wooden slats in the mould to strengthen it, and bind these in with resin?
4. I will be infusing the hull, and need to put some intricate parts in at the same time. I was thinking of placing a silicone former over these to stop the voids from being filled with resin - has anyone had any experience of this?
My website should be updated soon as well
Thanks in advance
