Hello all,

I am currently doing some rearranging and making some upgrades to my work shop and one of my upgrades is to build a new table/work station that will be strictly used for composite work. I am currently in the design phase of this work station and would like to get some input from the experts on what type of material would be best to use as the final table top?

A bench top covered with nylon sheet or similar is quite good. You can cut on it with knives and spilled resin or glue will not stick to it either.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I am going to price that tomorrow. I was originally going to using stainless steel but decided to find a more cost friendly option first lol.

I use an old glass computer table for my composite workstation.
one side for mould making and the other side for flat sheet infusions with a fan heater underneath makes for a cheap low temp oven.

I put the white coated melamine on top of the bench, the white coating is a natural nonstick, I can still put screws into it to hold jigs and fixtures , with waxing the drips pop right off

That is a very good idea! I will definitely be considering this or at least incorporate it in my design one way or another! Thanks for the tip! Just got to find some used glass that will work.

If you simply want a surface to work from then the choices are endless, if you want to produce flat sheet then a glass top is going to help.

if you in the UK Ikea sell very cheap glass table tops that can be adapted easily, when not needed you can simply use lining paper as a throw away cover, I got a few rolls and then tack them in place with some brown parcel tape.
