Are you sure it's got any resin in it at all? Fibreglass is often used as heat insulation, but doesn't generally have any resin it (think exhaust wrap).
I think a picture would help.

Hi all, I've been asked if I can help a pal out by making a replica heat shield for his Ford Cosworth. It's had foil stuck to the face nearest to the turbo/exhaust and looks like the fine fiberglass cloth on the outside. The outside is black and not resin rich, but I'm really not sure what it has been made of or even if the black is a dust coat of spray, any info would be great.
I'll try to post some pictures, but it's hard to tell from a picture what it could have been made from so any hints and advice as to what could have been used will be a great help, thanks.
