Group: Forum Members Posts: 26, Visits: 89	Hi to all, just a quick question or two on peoples opinions and methods that they use for finishing there parts. I already have a fairly glossy finish after demoulding. So... On my first test peice I intend to use a clear automotive laquer from a spray can. Any input on what grit sand paper pre and post laquer and how many coats much appreciated. On my second I wish to use easygloss polishing compound once again any input on pre sanding application grits or anything like that or tips for applying the easygloss. Just bare no coating just a sanded finish tip on grits and what not. And lastly any other ideas that anyone put forward would be great such as gel coating or any thing else. Group: Forum Members Posts: 363, Visits: 3K	When I finish with a PU spray, I sand P80 (to knock any irregularities etc off) , P120, P180, P240 then P320 before spraying. When I do this I'm not looking for a polish finish, just a dull uniform finish to allow the PU to key into. If i'm polishing the part with no finish I just work up the grits to wet sanding until I'm happy with the finish then buff with a machine buffer & compound

Group: Forum Members Posts: 363, Visits: 3K	Mainly rattle can but when I want the really nice durable finish I use Duraclear 2K done at the local spray shop - doesn't get done very often as I need to batch stuff with them otherwise it's not economic

Group: Forum Members Posts: 300, Visits: 2.2K	Hi David, I always spray 2K clear coat on my car parts mainly, I never use 1K any more as my sprayer friend just mock's me lol! so I have setup a small spray booth with a carbon filter and have a decent professional mask that I use. Really depends on the finish and depth of shine your after, if your just after giving it some UV protection then I suppose 1K is ok'ish, but I don't bother with 1K or 2K rattle cans any more. Sanding depends on the resin finish and how long you leave between layer coats and how many high/low spots and pin holes. I like to key in with a 300/400/500 grit and then get 3 decent layers down flatting back on each layer 1000/1200/1500 grit Then another 3-4 coats flattening back with 2000/3000 and then if you invest in a good gun (£50 DeVilbiss SLG 610 low pressure) and average air compressor with a little practice you will get a good final finish straight from the gun But it depends what your application is ... Group: Forum Members Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 28K	The Easygloss is very straight forward, just follow the instructions on the bottle. I do find it works better when applied with a soft pad on a RO polisher, but by hand works too.
