We do not carry out our own in house destructive testing so do not have any specific data on the kind of standards for protective shielding for this kind of work. Perhaps ask the lab tech's in your facility if they have any documentation for the universities own machinery. You may be able to get a formal "standard" for such protection and work from there.
We certainly would not advise any such testing without adequate correct protection as carbon fibre composites tend to fail producing very sharp splinters and dust which could present a significant hazard.
