I managed to purchase a couple of laboratory ovens of ebay and with a decent vac pump its great for curing composites.
Have a good look on the easy composite you tube videos and through the projects on here, then start pricing up all the materials and consumables you need, its not a cheap hobby

I'd give it a miss then. Build yourself a simple oven with a good PID controller and get into OOA pre-pregs. It's great stuff, exceptionally easy to use and you won't waste the time and money you would trying to repurpose that autoclave.

Thanks for your input.
Today I'm not doing any composites work at all. I understand that for most jobs an aotoclave is not at all necessary.

As hanaldo says ooa pre pregs are just as good depending on your application.
autoclaves arent cheap to run and you will probably need to do a bit of work to that one to make it suitable.

What are you making? In my opinion, OOA pre-preg makes autoclaves pretty redundant unless you're doing stuff for the F1.

Hi all,
This is my very first post...
I'm thinking of buying an autoclave. I have only received a few pictures so far.
It's 2 meter long and 0.9 m i diameter (inside). It's probably only approved for 3 bar.
50 years old and used for vacuum and steam threatment at a yarn factory, I think...
I will probably have to redo a lot to make it work.
Price: ~£500. What do you think.
PS I have no experience of prepreg and autoclave so far ;-)
Best Regards,
Magnus
