First of all: Never mix thread sealer and teflon tape ... stops both from working properly! Second .. Teflon tape must go on in the "perfect" thickness to seal WITHOUT backing the thread after tightening.
You ruin the sealing effect of teflon tape if you "back up" while tightening the threaded parts !! There's an "art" to sealing threads with Teflon/PTFE tape ... it must start tightly wound up in the right direction on the "male" part of the thread, and start out thin on the point, gradually winding it on thicker towards the end of the thread, where it must end up quite thick. You then tighten up the two parts until they are very hard to turn, and do not "back up" .. then test.. it it is not sealed ... unscrew, remove all teflon tape and start over ...
