Hi all!

Just demoulded my first infusion from Unimould split-mould...  BigGrin

Despite a microscopic leak in the envelope bag, the part turned out close to perfect.. No visible pinholing in any of the "usable" areas w00t

http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u449/DKDravis/40fedf44-c9a7-4863-9c58-c947f31dd19d_zpsrfxtedqo.jpg

Only real problems are the "seam" at the split in the mould (should have done a better job when making the flange for the split) and that my spread tow stripe shifted sideways when laying up the bottom layers, peel-ply, mesh and bag .. Doze

The Spread Tow stripe has nice lines to the two sides  (EC 240 gsm "specialist twill") made possible by spraying the back side of the "tow" with Cytec and letting it dry before cutting with EC Scissors..

The total "stack" is:   240 gsm "specialist" twill  + 300 gsm Biaxial + 300 gsm Satin (reinforced in strategic places with 300 Satin "off-cuts" ..

The whole "flange" + large parts of the front and rear was cut off before use.   Final part = 804 grams ..

Pics of the finished and painted part to follow ..

The Plug was an original tank that had been crash damaged -- hammered out, filled, EC Pattern Primer-coated, then High Gloss -

I was in a bit of a hurry, so the mould was made from start to finish in 24 hours ...  (They needed the "pattern" as a "temporary cover" to go racing in Sweden Cool)

I feel your pain with the weave movement!

can you explain a little how you feed the resin into the centre and then exhaust the edge.

I'm about ready to do my nosecone that is a similar bowl shape, can I use the spiral to exhaust my resin or is there a specific product.

looks great by the way, thanks for posting.

Actually I ran out of the black silicone "vacuum infusion adapters" from EC, so used my "through bag connector" (Which ruined the valve on it, locking it up with IN2 resin ... Doze) for the vacuum outlet.

I ran a spiral all the way around the edge/flange of the "bowl" from the through bag connector, with an extra layer of infusion mesh under it.. Also I set the through bag connector on some strips of gum tape.

For the Resin inlet, I used one of the black silicone adapters, with a short piece of spiral (as you can see in the picture) just to spread the resin out a bit, in order to speed it up a little-  This time I experimented with a rather long hose for the resin pot intake, and placed the resin pot about 60 cm lower then the intake.. this seems to help get the resin degassed as it flows into the stack.

It worked perfectly.. BigGrinCool
