Hi,

Af far is I've understood, the EC Woven finish CF tubes are made from Autoclave Prepreg?

What are the upper temperature limits of the Woven Finish CF tubes from EC?

I'm thinking the temperature levels where they still keep 80 - 90 % of their hoop strength?

We don't have any data from the manufacturer as yet so we are looking to get the tubes evaluated for mechanical properties in the near future.   What we do feel is that the Tg of the lacquer is likely to be much lower thus the limit if you want to keep a high quality cosmetic finish is going to be that of the lacquer.

In my intended application, the surface finish is not very important, I may simply wet-sand the surface down to remove the clear-coat, if it has a significantly lower resistance to temperature.

I would be very interested in knowing the Tg of the prepreg used for the EC woven finish tubes.

Does the EC high Temp Resin have better resistance to UV than "normal" Epoxy Resin?

The UV resistance is pretty similar, although the high temperature resin is already amber in colour to start with so from a cosmetic perspective and further UV yellowing would be hard to notice.  In terms of long term protection, although all the epoxies have a good level of UV additives in them, being modern epoxies, they do not have as much UV stability as some of the surf type resins which have a massive amount of UV additives in them, hence the purple appearance many of those type of resins have.

For your higher temperature application I would look at the standard Roll Wrapped Carbon Fibre Tube range as they have a Tg of 130C.

I have already looked at the roll wrapped tubes Smile

From a "sales" piont of view for my application a "satin finish" real Carbon-fibre (twill) surface will be preferable.

Hence ... wrapping the roll wrapped tubes in a single layer of twill using high temp resin, would seem one way to go.

Or, get set up to produce the tubes I need from High Tg Resin and CF on a mandrel .. more work, but probably cheaper than the other options for me.

There will be a thread on this when I start experimenting  .. Rolleyes
