Hi Steve,
When you measure the thickness of the uncured pre-preg if you put some pressure on the vernier to try to 'squash' the carbon fabric down somewhat then this measurement will be very close to the measurement that you'll get in a cured laminate. It does depend on the amount of pressure you're putting the laminate under but even this only makes a small difference. You should find the original vernier measurement will be within around 0.05mm.
