Hi guys

I was wondering how you would make a really thin sheet of CF ?

Thin would mean between 0.1 and 0.2 mm, and I wouldn't really care about the surface gloss, but need to avoid air bubbles trapped.

I've tryed by pressing the 1 layer of CF between 2 sheets of perspex, and trying to press locally to have the air bubbles out. This gives a glossy finish but I can really see gaps in the CF between the picks. I've also tried by laying the CF on a flat support, and then sand it to the fiber, both sides (to have the same finish).

Thanks !

Pierre

Hi,

Here is an indication coming from EC staff.

All thicknesses are obtained by vacuum bagging.

0.10mm  90g Carbon Fiber Cloth
0.25mm  200g Carbon Cloth
0.25mm  175g Aramid
0.35mm  200g Diolen
0.44mm  300g Aramid
0.60mm  450g Carbon Fiber Cloth

0.80mm  650g Carbon Fiber Cloth

Hope it helps.

So the thickness is driven by the type of cloth used. That makes sense. And the thinnest achievable would be the 90g CF.

I think I've obtained about the same thickness using the 200g CF cloth by pressing between 2 sheets of PMMA.

Thank Joe!
