Pre-preg made parts aren't necessarily superior to well made infused parts, but in terms of layup, the tacky nature and pre-measured resin nature of pre-preg makes it better suited to wheels in that case as it just makes life easier.
This article was a paper by one student of an FSAE team doing carbon wheels:
https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/bitstream/handle/1811/58422/carbon_wheel_thesis_FINAL.pdf?sequence=1
Well worth a read. Also plenty of threads on FSAE forums.
Another good read:

you can get kevlar pre-pregs but usually such things are mostly used in fairly specialist applications so made to contract and unlikely to be something that can be easily got in small amounts.
It was a busy weekend! Just ring if you need to catch up or ask stuff.

Nice job on developing your own buck it sure looks nice.
Think you might have convinced me that making my own seat buck suited for myself and the car is the best course for my project.
Thanks for sharing those pdf's Warren very interesting read.
The idea of making resin infused carbon fibre wheels put a childish smile on my face.

Thought I would do a quick update, made the other seat and changed the upulstery a little, was in a rush to get it ready for the Autosport show so they still need lacquering and some refinement to the upulstery but am pretty happy with the end result.

I'd be in trouble there. I'm flinching just thinking about it.

Looking real good Andy, I would imagine there is a good weight saving compared with the original seats!
A nice romantic dinner for two
