Thanks for the info! I think I will find an alternative to the polyester for now.

Thanks!

You will definitely need an active and powerful extraction ventilation if you are HVLP spraying Polyester based coatings..

Styrene is very smelly stuff, and will probably "contaminate" neighboring storage/workshop spaces with smell, unless you have very strong extraction ventilation.

Epoxies are not a problem at all, most of them give off almost no vapours

Since you will probably be grinding and cutting the finished parts, a combined dust and air extraction is ideal, although you can use an industrial vacuum cleaner for the grinding and cutting.

When I spray EC's GC50, which is a polyester based gelcoat, i run a 200Watt extraction fan, with 6" tubing, with a 15" funnel directly over my work-table.

My workshop which is only 12' x 12' and an 8' ceiling still gets very smelly .. Sick

Hello,

I am looking for a suitable place to use as a workshop forlaminating during the cold winter months. There are a few storage facilitiesthat offer units as workshops. These are climate controlled spaces with I'massuming some sort of ventilation.

My question is, how much ventilation will I need to safelywork in this environment? I will be doing mostly wet-lays with vacuum. I amlaminating with epoxy resin, and possible going to start using a polyestersurface coat (duratec sunshield) as well, which is applied with a HVLP gun.

Depending on the availability and pricing, the floor spacewill be around 10'X20' with, I'm guessing, 9' ceilings.

Here are some info sheets of the materials I will be using.

Any information is appreciated. And I would love to see whatyour workshop layouts and setups are!

Thanks!
