Winged paddles generally go over the shaft, mainly because you areore likely to break the blade so it is easier to remove without damage to the shaft. That and the original already is made over the shaft so figure it's less work changing it.

Most blades go inside the shaft rather than on the outside.  You could easily make this part of the mould to get the right diameter insert.  The ones I've seen that fit on the outside (werners) are moulded in place.

Hi Guys,

Looking at making a mold for some winged kayak paddles. Look a bit like this.

I'm thinking of making it as a mold with no flanges, just a simple layup of each side as they should fit together nicely because of their shape.

To make the hole for the paddle shaft to go into I am thinking of using a small section of shaft bulked out slightly to give a glue gap around the outside and some tape to stop it sticking.

Bit of some mindless ramblings here but what do people think? The way to go or is there a better way?
