what type of carbon prepeg should I use to skinning parts?

Group: Forum Members Posts: 4, Visits: 115	Hello, I want to try skinning car parts with prepeg carbon, but i have seen that there are different types of prepegs, with resin in one side and resin on both sides. What is the better choice for skinning?

First of all the parts would have to be able to withstand the curing temperatures of Prepreg, and how would you go about bebulking and getting a good surface finish? Wrap the entire part in a vacuum bag and pull a vacuum in an oven, only to have the now soft/liquid resin in the prepreg flow to areas whrer it should not go...?? Correct me if I'm wrong but I do not think it will work ... at all ?? "Sapere Aude"... Dare to KNOW! Group: Forum Members Posts: 10, Visits: 191	A lot of the Bentley rear wings are skinned with pre preg. Plastic part keyed 1 ply of 200g mr1 release film smoothed onto surface and flash taped into place (stopping any excess resin flow) and placed into a silicone mould that acts as a pressure plate job done.. Cure in oven lower heat it's only 200g doesn't take much.. Remove paint prep accordingly and lacquer.. I'll try and get a photo when I next see one in the process at work. Hope that makes sense, by rear wing these things are relatively flat and quite small. Also the only thing we skin everything else is full pre preg but thought I'd have a say Instagram - C14ENN Edited 11 Years Ago by Chenn

Plastic parts will expand a lot with the oven heat and they will also expand in an uneven manner or twist due to the varying thickness and shape of the plastic. Pre preg over steel or alloy works ok. Group: Forum Members Posts: 363, Visits: 3K	If you want the stable weave that you can get from prepreg then use a bound dry fabic but TBH with careful handling and prep you can keep the weave stable with a dry fabric anyway

What is EC "pro-finish"?? I normally skinning the parts apply carbon cloth, and layers of resin, but I thought if I use prepeg would be easy and fast, but I didn`t think in the high temperatures in the oven.

Somebody have any experience with this bound fabric?
