Hi

I need to repair this windsurfing mast, see attached pictures.

The problem here is the downward pressure making the fibre going apart. My guess it that the pressure is around 200-300kg.

Any idea how to fix this? Which fiberorientation could best take up the pressure?

If I was doing it I would have a stainless ring machined and bonded it on in the area that's damaged

Mid point of the mast I presume and that's the sliding join area ?

I agree with rob here.  Ideally you want a permenant solution and a steel ring as a hard point for the impact to go through is an ideal solution.  You can use fibre and resin to repair the join and get a nice surface to bond the ring on so it evenly spreads the load.

Alternatively just build it back up with resin and chopped carbon - but it wouldn't solve the long term problem of stopping the wear.

You will also want to consider a ring/collar on the top piece so it ends up with steel on steel rather than just moving the wear from the lower piece to the upper piece.

Thanks for your replies, I have now bonded two rings on mast and it seems like it will work.
