I had a few requests for fuel tanks. I had one of my first seat/tank units which I was not happy with. So I decided to cut it up to use the tank portion of the unit...
Here are a few shots... The part was not great when I started so was perfect as a first test part.
Here is the roughly cut tank..
I offered it up to the tank base mould to check where it had to be trimmed.
Here is the base being laid up..
The high tech inserts being installed... haha... It does not get much easier and cheaper than this...
Just finished lay up with the inserts installed and covered with carbon.

No autoclave, Just out of autoclave in a vacuum bag.. The temperature does depend on the material. One material I use has a maximum cure temperature of 75 degrees for 5 hours. But if I do that the part would look dry and have pinholes. Another one I use cures perfectly at that temperature. You need to work out what works best for the material you are planning on using. The lowest cure temp can give some good results or it can also give Pinholes. You need to find a temperature and possibly one or two steps in the temperature which helps.. Like heating up to 45 degrees and letting dwell for an hour then going up to 50 or 55 degrees and another dwell of between 30 minutes or 2 hours and finally up to the cure temp you have found works best... Also what breather stack method you use can make a huge difference so try different things with that like where you place peel ply or using perforated release film instead of solid release films. It is all experimenting to get the material you use to give the best results...

A quick update... This is the first tank I have made from scratch using the new material.. This is as it came out of the mould... You can still see the excess resin flashing on the mould joint seams... No polishing it really is just out of the mould...
