Hello,
New boy here - so please forgive my ignorance. I have nearly finished shaping a solid wood surfboard (balsa).
I'm trying to decide the best way to finish/waterproof it. Can I just coat the board with your coating resin? I mentioned that the board is solid wood, and therefore is structurally sound, so strengthening is not an issue. It is also relatively heavy! So I am looking for a minimal addition of weight to waterproof it, hence my question.
Ideally, I would like to have as clear a finish as I can to maintain the wood visuals.
Many thanks in advance, as any suggestions/thoughts will be appreciated.

Our Epoxy Coating Resin would be the ideal product for that. With careful application you can get a good finish but not lay it on too thick, thus adding unneccesary weight.

Hi I'm new to the forum today. I have shaped a very thin wooden board to be laminated for kitesurfing. My plan is to put a layer of 'BlackStuff' CF on the bottom and a layer of glass on top, each with the wet-laid vacuum bagging method.

I have access to a workshop that already has an Easy Composites vacuum pump kit, but need consumables. I'm guessing I need:
  • carbon fiber
  • fiberglass
  • a resin and hardener combination
  • peel ply
  • perforated release film
  • breather/bleeder cloth
  • vacuum bag material
  • vac bag sealing tape
  • some tool to spread the epoxy around
  • a volatiles mask
Is this a complete (or overcomplete?) shopping list for what I want to do? I'm a bit confused why the release film is perforated but the peel ply isn't - how does the epoxy flow through the peel ply if it isn't perforated? Can you recommend the epoxy combination? Can you recommend the best fiberglass type?

Thanks in advance

Peel ply is a fabric and porous so the resin flows through it fine.

In essence you want the VacuumBagging Starter Kit minus pump.
