Just be careful if it's been sitting around for awhile. It's very hygroscopic, and moisture kills it. So test it is still working after you apply it by using some masking tape or hot melt glue. If it's working then it will come off extremely easily. If you have a highly polished mould, you'll probably find that the tape won't even stick in the first place, it will just curl up on itself.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know. I've got some of that laying around but with so much time and money in the molds I haven't switched from wax/pva.

All good, I've got a gallon of the Frekote and it works like a charm. Should last me ages as well, I've got it tightly sealed in a box full of silica chips so I can hopefully keep any moisture out of it.

Well that's interesting! Do Nuplex sell the smaller quantities of Frekote, ie. 1 gallon? How much do they charge? I had sort of dismissed Nuplex for any of my supplies as they typically only deal with quantities far larger than I will ever need.

They don't sell pints, I had to buy a gallon. Just ask them if they will still sell you a litre. Sometimes they will open the gallons and repack them but probably only for good customers??

Try Lavender in Qld, they have the Marbocote release system but I don't know what size packages it come in.

Ahh nice, where abouts are you? On the East Coast? Is your supplier Jamie from Interturbine?

I am in Perth (West coast) , supplied by Nuplex Composites.

For what it's worth, I didn't have any issues at all with the release. My part slipped out of the mould like butter. It does have some residue on it that I'll need to polish out, but it seems the issue was that I applied the coats too heavy. Didn't cause any problems with release, so I'm pretty stoked with the performance of the Frekote.

I personally use, albeit on carbon moulds.

1 coat chemtrend mono coat
4 coats freekote
Cure at 60 degrees for 10-20 mins
Let cool
2 coats freekote
Cure at 60 degrees for 10-20 mins
Let cool
2 coats of freekote
cure at 60 degrees for 10-20 mins
Let cool
Then 1 final coat of freekote

Not sure if it matters but I work with pre-preg

But that's just my method. Works every time never a problem.

Doing  Frekote by the book means using mould cleaner, mould sealer and then the release. Especially on a new mould.

I know the sealer costs a lot so you really need to find a supplier that will sell it in smaller kits. I also know the frustration since my supplier only sells it in a 4 gallon can even though Frekote makes a 1 pint can!!!!!!! Arghh.

PS, I am also in Australia
