Hi Leon, Yes I was there for three months earlier this year working at Hankook Tire, how did you know I was in Indonesia? Are you in Indonesia. The wing in the photo's was wet laid. I am working on another at the moment which will be done using Infusion I will post some pics when it is finished. Regards Warren.

You have told me about that, may be you forgot it. yes I lived at indonesia, surabaya east java. very very HOT city, may I don't need a oven to cure the pre-pregs hahaha.. you may visit surabaya if you just pass this town. alright looking forward your part made with infusion warren.

Nice work. For it to be an effective wing it would need to be above the roof line. depends entirely on the flow over the individual car. throwing the spoiler above the roof line is the easy option to get in clean airflow every time. The reason is many cars due to the rear window/roofline angle get seperation at that boundary and the air behind the car at rear window hieght becomes turbulent so little use for creating downforce. however on smoother design cars, where the clean airflow seperates from the bodywork can be much lower down the rear window and on some cars at the back of the boot itself. eg    on the S1600 rally puma for example, it doesnt seperate until the boot so the spoiler is designed thus:  Also note that the leading edge of the wing is curved to match the airflow over the curved rear window. The boot rear edge itself is infact a factory designed spoiler as originally the airflow went right down the back fairly cleanly and made the cars rear end too light. The original design for the car prior to wind tunnel testing was this:  aerodynamics can be horribly complicated if you want to be precise. The maths i had to learn when i studied fluid dynamics as part of an aeronautics course was brain numbing and i used to think i was good at maths LOL. Thanks Warren

Yes but saying all that, specifically On the vx 220 he would be correct about it needing to be above the roofline.... The air above the engine bay will be turbulent due to the drop height of it compared to the roofline... Air will literally tumble off the roof and buffer on top of the engine bay. A spoiler in Turbulent air won't produce downforce... And in truth if it did it would destroy the boot lid in this instance so it's a good thing :-) Basically if you wouldn't fee comfortable actually lying on the wing due to the way it's supported then it can't be producing any significant downforce? I know this as its a very similar design to a noble as standard and an issue I have spent a lot of time correcting hence my entire new rear end :-)

Hi Warren (not many of us with that name) I to have worked for many years in the Aerospace and Motorsport Industries (more than I care to remember Lol) and spent many hours in Wind Tunnels. You are spot on, it is a minefield of a subject but like Composites a very addictive one. The Mk 2 of the wing is near completion. I will post some pics when it is done. Regards Warren

I only "worked" in the industry for 2 years as i got bored of fixing planes rather than seeing them in action. It was cool when i studied at imperial to see proper windtunnels in action as not many colleges have access to such equipment. Although it was annoying as we wernt allowed to see the really interesting F1 stuff going on at the time as it was all covered by corporate confidentiality agreements.

Tell me about it, there are projects I worked on that I am still unable to talk about. One of which is part of your earlier post. What I can say is that it didn,t really work and that many years ago it was available in any colour as long as it was black lol.

wozza (05/10/2012) The Rear Wing has finally gone from a concept to a finished part. Cosmetically it is far from perfect but it performs as per the the simulation model. Nice work! The aluminium looks great with carbon fiber. Fred
