I am building a couple of windows and want to use recycled timber to create the stool and the inner frame section of the casing (the inward facing box frame surrounding the window - inside the house). There are a few screw holes in the timber and rather than use wood filler I'd like to try cleaning them up and filling them with some kind of tinted/coloured resin.

The holes are not very large, maybe 8mm diameter and 10mm deep each, and there are probably only about 30 of them. If it looks ok in testing I might try routing out a small channel where the holes are instead of leaving them as they are. I'll likely be finishing the timber by sanding it down and painting with a satin finish Osmo oil.

Either way this is going to be a relatively small test job so the amount of material I need won't be great.

I was thinking of two possible options;

1. A solid colour.
2. A translucent colour that I might be able to situate a couple of LEDs underneath to add a bit of bling to the frame.

Could you advise what product, if any, you'd recommend for these two options and any equipment or issues I'd need to consider as well?

Thank you.

I can't seem to edit my original post... I just wanted to also add that I don't intend to try and match the timber colour. I'm looking to contrast with a bright colour and make the holes obvious rather than hide them.

Hi,  An ideal product for that would be the GlassCast 10 Clear Epoxy Casting Resin as it would fill in that size of hole no issue and can also be pigmented if you so wish.  I don't see any issues with using LED's either.

The same resin could be used if you routed a groove of similar depth instead.
