Hi all,
I joined talkcomposites a few years ago when my initial intention was to make some carbon fibre automotive parts for my Porsche powered VW Camper - hence the username. However, a somewhat change of life saw me move to Melbourne Australia. Since living here, I have shipped my camper over here, but have also taken up fishing from an ocean kayak. My newest kayak is fibreglass with a carbon fish hatch lid that I am going to modify to create a new, improved design for my uses.
I will be using an old hatch lid as the base for my pattern, from which I intend to make a glass mold and either a glass or carbon part from this.
The original hatch is a flat part. My new part will have a recessed "tray" for a bit of storage as well as a Fish finder/GPS mount for flush mounting a headunit to.
To date, I have:
Cut an old hatch for the aperture of my storage tray
made the tray and bonded to the hatch lid.
Designed and 3D printed the headunit mount which will be bonded to the hatch
I have filled, high build primed and sanded to 240 grit, ready for high gloss top coat and mold making.

I would have chosen EC for all my products, but with the shipping costs, not the mention the restrictions on the shipping of resins etc, I will very much likely have to result to locally sourced. Although, I am still tempted to purchase EC's vacuum pump DVP EC.4.
I look forward to sharing my progress with such a knowledgeable bunch.
