Thanks for clearing that up ! it boggled me the reason it had the holes in it !

Keep at it dude, the end result will be you being proud of performing a complicated task and prevailing.

As for muffling spool noise who wants that !! haha!

My preference is more! as you shall see below BigGrin

Hey NTF.

Quite an unusual Turbo Inlet, The Bored holes are confusing the hell out of me.

With that part skinning would be a nightmare, I can see where you are coming from.

If it is just an inlet then what about trying to make your own design?

I've seen all sorts of wonderful easy ideas from plant pot moulds then made into an inlet.

I toy'd with the idea of doing my Boost pipes but like the guys have said it would be easier to do them in prepreg with a split mould.

I cant do Pre Preg as i dont have an oven or the room to have one Sad

I,ll keep an eye on this thread as id love to see you succeed and get that complicated bit completed.

Hi Joellawtie,

The bored holes were part of a inlet muffler design (checkout post #23335 for picture of the original inlet pipe), the part originally had a huge ugly plastic casing around those holes and looked terrible in the engine bay. I trimmed off the big plastic outer housing exposing the bit you see with the holes. The original unit was designed that way to reduce inlet noise and turbo spool noise. I'll keep posting update pics as I'm determined to succeed and end up with a nicer looking inlet than the original part.

I'm looking to do the same and I was going to use the sleeve cloth but my pipes are 90mm lol!
What iv done before on a test piece was wrap the full pipe and try to keep it as close as you can,  sand smooth after the first coat,  then your usual resin coats,  once sanded and smooth I tape off and painted black a thin line over the join,  then clear coat.
Part looked flawless Smile

That might work, especially if I keep the joint at the back where it can't be seen. My pipe is 90mm at one end, 76mm at the other and has a 80º bend over about 300mm and a slight twist in it. If I had the skills or access to the right stuff cheaply enough I'd make a mould but being in the middle of Australia access to the specific gear is limited.

CF sleeve was only available in 12k in the size I needed and it just wouldn't go around the bend without bunching up.

I was thinking if you want to wrap it with fabric then use a 1/2" ribbon of UD/spread tow/weave as a finishing trimmer over the join,

Mould wise, my first thought was make a box just larger than the part, pour in some silicone to get the shape, split and release, then put back in the box and pour in some styrene based foam to make the pattern then just layup over it and use some heat shrink over the top to compress, then dissolve the foam after, you could get the mould made in a couple of hours and it's re-usable for small runs

Don't go telling Fasta it can be done in two hours Smile
