Bang Joe you nailed it, for the most part this guns nozzle and cup adapter is WAY too BIG  for nearly all my applications. I need this smaller cup adapter. One I can hook up a red solo cup with 16oz.

I have no access to a lathe but I need this new adapter, not only are the cups huge for my application the nozzle rests about half and inch up from the edge of the cup so you really got to waste alot. And forget about just doing one part at a time with a cup this size.

I sure would love to see easy composites step up and make an adapter for a smaller something like 12-16 oz cup. Joe, Feel like selling yours  I need that lol!!???

Found the nozzles here: http://www.bottompaintstore.com/fluid-spray-gun-nozzles-for-g100-and-g200-spray-guns-p-10439.html

I ordered the 3.1 mm, Ill let ya know how it goes.

Bottom line is this gun and nozzles are built for spraying boat hulls but alot of the products on easy composites are geared towards smaller projects since were buying in small portions not 5 gallon buckets for the most part. Therefor the cup is just to dang big to match up with any kit really.

Now I really should of been practicing shooting on another surface before going right for the mold but I didn't. Guys start off with about 20% pressure then go up from there. I doubt you would need more than that for smaller parts but because for the large nozzle the stuff wants to drip out a bit with the pressure down.

I am going to attach some pics of how the stuff laid on the mold, for my first time I don't think its terrible. Its better looking then the last attempt with the HPLV gun.

Here's that engine cover buffed out. Now I am just waiting on this eazy lease. I am finding I need to sand the parts with 1200 or even 1000 to get my wax streaks out of the gc50. However it does buff out nicley.

This is the ripple effect you get with an un even GC50 coat:

Here's the gc50 shot with the new cup gun from easy composites: Id love to see how smooth someone elses molds look so I can have a goal.

This part did come out better but I barley salvaged the coverage with the gc50. Going to give it one more show ant order a smaller nozzle.

I made this for my friend he has a 69 honda passport scooter "cub bike" He making it real sic but heres a stock photo.

Definitely will be giving this a try for some of my products!

Joe (12/07/2012)
Hey guys,

For when I need a smaller amount of GC50, I made me a smaller cup adapter, so I dont waste a big cup.
Pictures here under.

I know how the G100 works and how easy it is to clean, so I chose to adapt it rather than buying another big tip airbrush-kinda-stuff that i would need to learn how to set perfect every time.

While I was at it, I also made a bigger tip (6.5mm) for other gelcoats, as my bigger tip was previously 4.7mm (which works well for GC50).

For those who cant access a lathe, I think making it made would not cost more than buying another smaller airbrush-like gun with 5mm tip, if such thing does exist anyway.

Nice stuff Joe, i do envy you having access to a lathe!

Dave.

Thanks for the video feed, I will definitely be trying to mimic their technique! Gun is on the way, so is a bottle of easy lease.

I did do a light buff to that part I made but it seams the pva or wax made swirl marks on the surface so I may have to try a deeper cut. I Think I am going to pic up an air polisher today to and try again.

When using the easy lease, how do I apply that? How many coats and do I need any other release agent when using it?

This could help you to see the correct handling of the gun and application technique of a gel. This is totally different to how you would normally spray...

Great, thanks for all the input!

Then My next step is getting this cup gun and mastering a good spray technique.

I'll most likley get online tommorow and order it. Glad I dont have to waste package space for the cups! Now I can get the gun and some easylease and I should be good to go!!

I plan on polishing that part I made with the GC50 tommorow or the next day, looks glossy already so a final light buff sould be perfect.

And Marc, the problem with touchup guns is the nozzle sizes. Thier just not designed for epoxy period. the stuff needs to be layed waaay faster than a touch-up gun.

Also the touchup guns arent designed for having resin in them and get clogged pretty easily and are a total PITA to clean. I even had to throw out the screen in the gun as it was clogged. I know how ya feel, I got small parts/molds too but to but a smaller gun wont help much. Just get the cup gun from easy composites and I am sure it can be cleaned and used much easier regarless if its the only thing that works right. I'll let ya know once I get it.

Hi Carbon Tuner, answers to your questions:

#1. do I have to order these cups for the gun from you? Not that I dont love easy composites but I dont want to import paper cups from another country if I dont have to Wink

No, get them from wherever you can. I think they come from the 'States in the first place. We make pennies on those cups so it doesn't matter to us where you get them from! - They're basically cups for french fries I think.

#2. Can this gelcoat be sanded to smooth out, same process 500, 1000, 1200, polish???

You'd have to experiement with this. The concern would be that it would need to fully cure in order to sand properly and if it does fully cure that it won't bond properly so although there might be something in it, it also might not work.

#3. How do I give the piece I made its final glaze? Should I just hit it with a light cut compund, or start with full cut and work all three steps back?

Should just be a light cutting compound. The gel polishes really well.

You can add styrene up to about 7 % of the resin/gel but you'll find that at that ratio it might start to affect the resin/gel (causing it to become more brittle when cured) so try to add as little as you can get away with.
