Hi,
I'm looking for advice on a little project I am doing aboard the yacht I work on.
We are intending on wrapping some of our tender hatches in some carbon fibre material so they become more in line with the colour of the tender.
They will not need to be super shiny and utterly perfect however the closest we can get the happier we wiil be.

We have some fine weave black fabric, EL2 Laminating Epoxy, AT30 Fast Epoxy Hardener and PVA mould release agent.
Is there a primer I should be using to bond the fabric to the plastic panels of can I just go ahead and apply the laminating epoxy straight on to the plastic and then layer the fabric on top of that?
Alternatively am I better off making the mould then fixing the carbon fibre mould in place at a later date?

This is all very new to me and we are a little pushed for time so I need to get cracking and get these bits done. I have attached a picture showing the products and item to be covered in the CF.

Thanks
Ben

Do yourself a favor and get some of EC's Coating Resin...  maybe some of the black "basecoat" resin ..
If you count on only applying one layer of CF, then the white background will be clearly visible through the CF.

Sand down the plastic lightly, degrease thoroughly, then apply black "basecoat" ... follow the procedures in the EC "skinning" video on "the toob" or from the EC website.

Since this is a marine appication, finish off with marine varnish. (For UV protection)

Good luck ... BigGrin

Dravis suggestions are the best way to go. Laminating resin is the wrong thing to use. Get the skinning resin.

I did a skinning video not that long ago using only EC products.

You can find it on the link above (can not include a youtube video on this forum, dont know why :s)

sure you'll find some tricks and tips in the video that can help you out a bit.

I've used the EL epoxy, and it works but might take you a bit more time than with the skinning resin (never used it)

Here's the result

Good luck and keep us updated Wink
