Hi all, I'm looking to make some side skirt splitters (basically long planks of carbon). So could I make a mould out of mdf and use resin infusion? I would make a positive mould (if that's the correct word), and make the mdf the shape of the inside of the finished part and lay carbon over the top of it. I'm trying to make it as cost effective as possible, while keeping the quality high

Hi Dan,
You could use M.D.F but you would have to seal it, I would recommend using pattern coat primer followed by pattern high gloss!  Durabuild is a product I have used often! Though easy composites sell a range  of products. If you are after high quality finished products then you must spend time on your moulds.
                                                                                              Kind Regards

If you want to make the mold the inside of the piece (the side that won't be seen) then all you have to do is cover it in packing tape and lay your fabric. It will release easily, but you'll have to finish the visible side by flow coating and clearcoating.
